Daniel Ek, Spotify founder who took the billion dollar industry disruptor public in 2018, has turned his attention to AI body scans. After feeling frustrated with the inefficiency of the healthcare industry, Ek sought out to democratize highly personalized health data through his latest venture, Neko Health. Along with Swedish entrepreneur Hjalmar Nilsonne, Ek believes he can help bring increased longevity and decreased disease to the masses.
Neko Health uses advanced scans with more than 70 sensors to render a detailed full body scan, which is then analyzed by AI technology. These scans can detect cardiovascular, metabolic, and skin conditions. Ek frequently uses the visual metaphor of an airport scanner, where users stand still in a similar position while data is being gathered. A single scan costs about $230, which remains drastically less expensive than other body scan competitors on the market. They currently run two clinics in Sweden, and recently launched one in London. Ek claims his goal isn’t to make a profit with Neko, but rather to make personalized preventative systems more accessible and reverse downward trending health patterns across the globe. He hopes body scans will become as routine as an annual check up.

So why is this relevant to us? We think Neko health embodies a larger trend across industries for an increased desire to receive tailored, individualized experiences. People want to understand their bodies, and we want to make that an accessible reality. At Couture Technologies, we help brands solve similar issues throughout e-commerce that Ek experienced in healthcare. Our bodies are unique, our daily lives singular to only us. Our shopping experiences, much like our health practices, should represent who we are and what we need, without having to pay for access to experts or resources currently only available to the hyper wealthy.
